Caledonian Pearl First Early Seed Potatoes
Perfect for Small Spaces
Caledonian Pearl First Early Seed Potatoes are an excellent choice for smaller gardens or growing in bags. Each taster pack contains 10 seed potatoes that produce high yields of delicious, yellow-skinned tubers with smooth, creamy yellow flesh. These versatile potatoes are perfect for salads, but you’ll also love them steamed, boiled, or sautéed in a variety of dishes.
How to Plant
Plant your First Early seed potatoes from March onwards. Here's how:
- Prepare for planting: Place seed potatoes on a cool, bright windowsill for 4–6 weeks to encourage sprouting (a process called ‘chitting’).
- Planting depth and spacing: Plant 10 cm (4") deep and 20 cm (8") apart in rows, leaving at least 30 cm (12") between rows for growing space.
- Earth up: Draw soil around new shoots as they grow to protect them from frost and sunlight, which can turn the potatoes green and inedible.
Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged and water regularly during warm weather to promote healthy growth.
How to Harvest
Caledonian Pearl potatoes are ready to harvest in June or July.
- Cut back the plant stalks to ground level.
- Gently lift the plants using a garden fork.
- Carefully collect the potatoes, wash them thoroughly, and enjoy!
